New photos from the Channel 5 drama series, Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards, have been released ahead of the show airing.

The two-parter will explore the story of ‘how a vulnerable 17-year-old was groomed by one of the most powerful figures in television.’

Wuthering Height’s Martin Clunes will play the newsreader who plead guilty in 2024 to three counts of making indecent images of children.

A year earlier Edwards was suspended by the BBC after allegations of misconduct emerged.

At the time, the South Wales Police and Metropolitan Police didn’t find any evidence of criminal conduct. Months later he was arrested and charged the following year with having category A images, the most serious classification, on a phone.

Before this, he was one of the highest paid presenters at the broadcaster, covering the most high profile events including the coronation of King Charles, and the wedding of Prince William and Kate.

The Channel 5 drama is said to ‘explore the newsreader’s double life as it spirals out of control, leading him to make the greatest announcement of his career – his total exit from public life following his conviction for serious child sexual offences.’

Who is in the cast of The Downfall of Huw Edwards?

Doc Martin’s Martin Clunes, 64, stars as the newsreader. His other projects include ITV’s Manhunt and Out There, as well as a recent feature in Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights.

Welsh actor, Osian Morgan, will play the teenager at the centre of the original allegations.

Ben Bishop will play The Sun’s news editor, Ben O’Driscoll, Claire Calbraith will play Editor Victoria Newton, and Chanel Cresswell from Trollied, Dirty Business and This Is England will play reporter Scarlet Howes.

The paper broke the initial story about a BBC star who allegedly paid a young person for sexually explicit photos.

According to Channel 5 the show has ‘built on extensive factual research over the past 12 months, including extensive first hand interviews and co-operation from those at the heart of the scandal and exclusive access to The Sun newspaper’s award-winning investigation into Edwards.’
